Al Cohn, MD FACS
A native Southerner, Dr. Cohn is a graduate of Duke University and the Medical University of South
Carolina. He is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and is a member of the American
Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, Jefferson County Medical Society,
Alabama Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.
After his surgical residency at the University of Chicago Hospital, Dr. Cohn underwent extensive,
sub-specialty fellowship training in cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, and body with additional
focus on advanced breast reconstruction, under the tutelage of his mentor and now- partner, Dr.
James Grotting. After ten years of solo private practice Dr. Grotting chose Dr. Cohn to be his
Dr. Cohn is the author and co-author of numerous academic articles published in
peer-reviewed plastic surgery publications. He has served as clinical faculty for surgical
residents at Carraway Methodist Hospital and is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the
division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital.
Dr. Cohn enjoys coaching his children’s sports teams, playing tennis, and spending time with his
wife and three daughters. He is actively involved in community, religious,
and philanthropic endeavors.
