Having children is the most rewarding experience in a mother’s life! Just as children change your life forever, pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding can change your body forever. Fortunately, Dr. Grotting and Dr. Cohn have helped many women in the quest to restore their pre-pregnancy body. A Mommy Makeover is a combination of surgical procedures affecting the breasts and torso. These procedures could include: a breast augmentation or reduction (mammaplasty), a breast lift (mastopexy), a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), and liposuction.
Are You a Candidate?
Loose or separated abdominal muscles, stretched and hanging abdominal skin, sagging, deflated breasts, and areas with pockets of fat cannot be reversed by diet and exercise. These side effects of childbirth can be corrected with a Mommy Makeover. For the best results, candidates should be non-smoking individuals, in good health, and close to their ideal weight.
During your consultation, Dr. Grotting or Dr. Cohn will address ways to improve your areas of greatest concern and develop a plan to maximize your Mommy Makeover results. Your Mommy Makeover plan will be a combination of procedures specific to your outcome goal.
Breast Augmentation, Breast Lift, and Breast Reduction
Breast augmentation can restore or add volume and shape to your deflated breasts. Implants are offered in a variety of sizes and materials, allowing a perfect option for the look you desire. A breast lift reduces excess, sagging skin, and it raises the breast, areola, and nipple. A breast lift, or mastopexy, can also be performed in conjunction with an augmentation or breast reduction. A breast reduction, or mammaplasty, reduces fatty and glandular tissue and excess skin. Each of these breast procedures can give you a perky, aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Tummy tuck surgery, or abdominoplasty, targets skin and muscle laxity in the abdomen. Dr. Grotting and Dr. Cohn offer a range of tummy tuck options, from mini to extended, depending on the level of abdominal laxity. A tummy tuck tightens the abdominal wall, removing excess skin and creating a smoother, flatter appearance.
Liposuction, combined with other Mommy Makeover procedures, removes unwanted deposits of fat in the midsection, ensuring a firm, toned contour and overall completed look. Liposuction can also be performed anywhere on the body removing fat deposits in areas that are hard to tone, restoring confidence in your appearance.
The recovery of your Mommy Makeover will depend on your combination of procedures. Traditionally, most patients require two weeks off from work. During that time, swelling, bruising, and discomfort are expected. Oral pain medication will be prescribed to alleviate discomfort if used according to directions. Compression garments will help to control the swelling and encourage proper healing. After the first few days, you may begin to feel like yourself again; however, proper rest is still necessary for a healthy recovery. Do not overexert yourself or participate in any strenuous exercises for at least six weeks after surgery. Your doctor will provide post-op instructions specific to you. These instructions should be followed to ensure the best surgical outcome.
Your results will be noticeable once the bruising and swelling have subsided. This can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Results are long lasting when paired with a healthy lifestyle. Additional pregnancies may alter the quality of your results. Dr. Grotting and Dr. Cohn recommend waiting until you have finished having children before you consider a Mommy Makeover.
