What Is the IDEAL IMPLANT for You?

Posted September 14, 2015 in Breast Augmentation Procedure, Breast Implants, Plastic Surgery News

What is the IDEAL Implant?Since their FDA approval in 2006, silicone implants have consistently become the implant of choice for women. The cohesive nature of the silicone gel makes it the perfect implant since it best simulates the natural look and feel of breast tissue. Gone are the days where breast augmentation meant obvious enhancement.

In 2011, the “gummy bear” implant was introduced. Its main difference from a traditional silicone implant was that the highly cohesive gel would not migrate throughout the body if a rupture were to occur. Silicone migration after implant rupture was considered an important safety issue with traditional silicone implants.

However, with both regular silicone and gummy bear implants, women are still required to get an MRI every two years to ensure there hasn’t been an implant rupture. Without an MRI, a woman cannot tell if there is a rip or tear in her silicone implants. In some cases, untreated silicone ruptures may lead to inflammation of the surrounding breast tissue.

Introducing the IDEAL Solution

In 2014, the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant received FDA approval for women 18 years of age or older. Since then, it has slowly been making its way into plastic surgeons’ offices across the U.S. But you may be asking yourself, why do we need another implant option? Didn’t silicone implants satisfy our needs for a natural-feeling breast implant?

The IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant offers the safety of saline implants with the natural look and feel of silicone implants. Its multi-chambered structure holds a saline solution and contains no silicone gel. The multi-chamber design creates a durable implant that has the same feel as a silicone one. However, since it is filled with a saline solution, implant ruptures are immediately noticeable and pose no health risk.

Traditional saline implants had a water balloon-like structure that was prone to ripples, waves, and wrinkles. While it increased the volume of the breasts, it didn’t provide the same feel as natural breast tissue. The multi-layer design of the IDEAL IMPLANT allows for a stiff implant that won’t ripple or wrinkle. At the same time, it is pliable enough to look and feel like real breast tissue.

As a relatively new implant, the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant is not available in the mass market. Specific offices around the U.S. have been chosen to add the IDEAL IMPLANT to their selection of implant options. At Grotting & Cohn Plastic Surgery, we are excited to announce that our office will be one of a select few to offer this revolutionary implant technology. Our staff is comprised of board-certified plastic surgeons who can help you achieve your ideal breast enhancement results.
